High Def TV 10/31/2007 09:36pm
Let's see if anyone in Crestlake is reading this forum...

Does anyone have a success story at pulling in OTA local HD channels? Specifically, success at getting Decatur HD channels with a steady, strong signal. What make/model antenna? Where mounted - attic or outside? Any tips or tricks?

i've got it all working. i purchased the DB4 from antennasdirect.com. it's installed in my attic. point it west and slightly to the south.

another tip is don't skimp on the cable quality. i tried using some old coax cables i had lying around and when i swapped them for some new ones, the reception quality rose dramatically.

also, try and eliminate as many splits and long cable runs as possible.

it is awesome and blows away ota analog tv (no more snow or ghosts).

good luck with your install.

Thanks for the info, Carl.

I ended up buying a RadioShack 15-1892 indoor antenna. It was obviously easy to install, but I can't say I'm completely satisfied with the results. Generally, it's fine, but I can't depend on a strong signal for WILL (PBS) or WAND (NBC).

I thought about getting a DB4 (or a DB8), but I didn't because it is a directional antenna.

With the DB4 pointed to the southwest, do you also get a good picture on WCCU (FOX) and WICD (ABC)? Their towers are close to us, but to our northeast and southeast, therefore "behind" the DB4.

i recently got a converter for my old tv with the $40 rebate. final cost was $10+tax. my old tv has great reception now.
